River Flood:

The term "River flood" describes a type of flooding that can happen when the level of Water from a River begins to rise (crest) over the banks. There are many factors that can cause this type of flooding, such as persistent Rain, stalled Storms, Hurricanes, and rapidly melting Snow.

Flash Floods:

The term "Flash Floods" describes Flooding that happens very quickly and is most commonly caused by excessive Rains that have fallen in a very short time period. Flash floods can occur within a few minutes of persistent rainfall. To sum it up, any great body of Water such as a Dam, that is released within areas that are generally dry could be considered Flash Flooding.
